This cut is the second major release since Mark Farina reignited the pilot light for his Great Lakes Audio imprint. This is important for two reasons: GLA is showing serious staying power with this three-track EP, and the three-track EP in question is from one of the single most important acts on the House scene today: Uneaq.
"Just Move" is chill enough to fit on a late-'90s trip hop compilation, jam packed with melodic samples and groovy beats. The Party Wrecker Mix picks up the pace with those kinds of resounding, minimal beats that just seem to fit into of label boss Farina's sets like a comfortable pair of kicks.
"Phunkie Junkiez" is the EP's hidden gem - an homage to '90s Chicago House with bizarre hypnotist samples ("We create a mental atmosphere"), random divas hitting a note or two and a funky ass bass all smashed together into one hell of a party song. One of the cool things here is that you can really play with the pitch control with all three tracks - they seem absolutely designed for DJs to play with rather than play once.
I've interviewed I-don't-know-how-many people over the last five years who have hyped up their home labels like they were on the verge of becoming a Strictly Rhythm of the new millennium, released one track and let it fall dormant again when they realized that, wow, running a label is hard work. That doesn't seem to be the case with Farina and Great Lakes Audio and this is all the proof you need.
