Late in 2008, I was sent a promo sheet extolling this crew called DJN Project and their intention to create an innovative blend of House and Hip-Hop. And I'm going to admit that I had kind of a bitter laugh about it. Lil Wayne swiping House beats is all the mainstream press can talk about when it comes to House - which is bittersweet to cats like Tyree Cooper, Fast Eddie and the rest of the Hip House generation that started the party and had the mainstream show up about 15 years too late.
So this is the first tune I've really checked out from DJN Project and I have to admit - this is beyond my expectations (though I really can't hear the slightest trace of Hip-Hop in here, except for R&B roots that both genres share). The original mix of this tune is smooth in the style of Mark Grant or JT Donaldson (though admittedly without the clean beats you'd hear on one of their releases). The real treat here are the pair of Julius Papp remixes, which drop a load of fat funk in the mix without losing the R&B vibe of the song.
