Wayne Gardiner :: "Rise Again"
Review by Chain | Published January 2008 | Review Archives
This track is from Gardiner's The Return of LOGIC. "LOGIC" of course refers to Gardiner's project that released "The Warning" (1990) and "Blues for You" (1994), the latter a highly sought after rarity from Strictly Rhythm. And that was it until now. I'll have to wait to hear the other track "The Resurrection" but if it's anything like "Rise Again," he's got an easy sale from me. The original mix cooks, it's hot, it's whatever new word for "out-of-my-mind crazy" you want to say. Gardiner combines raw electro sounds with the touch of the jazz musician, not a beat or a note goes to waste. Consider some of Glenn Underground's mixes with Strictly Jaz Unit: that's the ticket although of course with Gardiner's own inspiration and twist on things.
The "Ascending Mix" adds some hi-hats and takes a trip through the ethereal plane. Make no mistake: this is very danceable stuff and House Music to its core, but with a spiritual dimension beyond lyrics (there are none) or a catchy title. Underneath all of this is the purest 4/4 you've ever heard.
